• Power cycle the washer: Unplug the unit from the wall outlet for 60 seconds, then plug it back in to reset the sensor
• Manually drain excess suds: Locate the drain hose at the back or front of the machine, place a bucket underneath, and open the drain valve to release water and foam
• Inspect the drain hose: Check the hose routed from the washer to the drain or standpipe for kinks, twists, or blockages; straighten any kinked sections and remove debris
• Clean the drain pump filter: Locate the filter access panel (usually front-bottom of the machine), turn the filter counterclockwise by hand to remove it, rinse under running water to clear lint and soap buildup, and reinstall
• Verify water supply valves: Check that both hot and cold water supply valves behind the washer are fully open (turn counterclockwise)
• Inspect inlet hoses: Look at the hoses connecting the water supply to the back of the washer for kinks, cracks, or pinching; straighten any kinked hoses
• Run a cleaning cycle: Add white vinegar (1-2 cups) or a commercial washer cleaner to an empty hot water cycle to break down detergent residue
• Check detergent type and amount: Confirm you are using HE detergent if your Amana is an HE model; measure detergent carefully using the dispenser markings—use only 1-2 tablespoons for a normal load
• Test with no detergent: Run one empty wash cycle with just hot water to confirm suds clear and drain pump operates normally
• Ensure washer is level: Use a spirit level on top of the machine; if tilted, adjust the front leveling feet so water drains properly toward the drain
• Check for water hardness: If your home has hard water, consider using a water softener additive or switch to a detergent designed for hard water
• Inspect the suds sensor: Look for any visible obstructions or residue on the sensor (usually a small component inside the drum area); wipe gently with a damp cloth if accessible without disassembly
