• Verify the refrigerator is firmly plugged into a grounded 120V outlet and the outlet is receiving power
• Check that the home circuit breaker serving the refrigerator has not tripped; reset if necessary
• Ensure both the refrigerator and freezer doors are closing completely and sealing properly
• Confirm the temperature controls are set to recommended settings (typically 37-40°F for refrigerator, 0°F for freezer)
• Unplug the refrigerator from the wall outlet and wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in to reset the control board
• Check that air vents inside the refrigerator and freezer compartments are not blocked by food or containers
• Inspect the defrost drain opening (typically located at the bottom back of the refrigerator) for visible ice or debris blockage
• Pour warm water down the defrost drain to help clear minor clogs if visible blockage is present
• If the refrigerator has an ice maker, verify the water supply line is connected, not kinked, and water supply valve is open
• Replace the water filter if your model has one and it hasn't been changed recently
• Allow the refrigerator to run for 4-6 hours after reset to complete a full defrost cycle before determining if the error persists
